New Zealand racing driver Matt Halliday is back in action this coming weekend when he contests the annual Dubai 24 Hour sports car race. Halliday has been signed to drive the latest 2011 Porsche GT3 Cup S which is based on the Giltrap Racing Porsche GT3 911 Supercup car he campaigned last year although this edition will be a higher specification version designed to compete in 24 hour races.
Joining Halliday in his 24 hour racing debut will be fellow Porsche racers Will Langhorne (USA), Yadel Oskan (Turkey) and Francesco Castellac (Italy) who will be sharing the car under the entry of German team MRS Racing under management of Karsten and Iris Molitor. Halliday and Langhorne are no strangers to MRS having driven for them as team-mates in last year’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season.
Although the 24 hour race will present a new racing environment for Halliday, he feels well prepared for the event having previously raced at the Dubai circuit:
"I am pleased to be signed by MRS for such a prestigious race and the first 24 hour event on the 2011 calendar. Having recently driven for the team in a high profile series, I have total confidence in their preparation and management. It will be great driving again on the testing Dubai track where I raced the Kiwi A1GP car back in 2005” said Halliday on his arrival in the Middle East.
Over 80 high performance cars will face the starter for the Dubai race which is scheduled to start at 2:00am on Saturday morning (NZ Time) and finish at the same time on Sunday morning. Practice and qualifying will take place over Thursday and Friday.
