Matt Halliday

Friday practice and Saturday qualifying were held in dry and wet conditions with the Kiwi setting a pleasing 11th fastest lap time in free practice. However, having run within the top ten during most of qualifying, the rain appeared preventing him from making a clear run on his second set of tyres relegating him 14th grid position.

During the race, drivers found overtaking risky as the track was very greasy off the racing line especially through the fast flowing corners which are a feature of the revised Silverstone layout. The race saw 26 cars face the starter and was Halliday’s second appearance in the Porsche Supercup series driving for the Germany based MRS Team with additional sponsorship from fashion clothing label William Rast Racing:

"After a really tough qualifying where we never got a proper lap on our second set of tyres, we made a good start and passed a few cars but that was really our maximum. There was also no chaos on the first lap which is quite unusual so nothing could be gained from that. "Anyway, it’s always fun to race at Silverstone where there is always a lot of Kiwis present and thanks to the Giltrap Group and William Rast racing for making the deal possible.” he explained after the race.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race was a support event to the British Formula 1 Grand Prix.
