From nowhere to nail-biter; Jason Bright and Matt Halliday drove the wheels off the Trading Post Racing Commodore at Bathurst today to finish fourth in the 1,000km marathon. The car struggled for pace in the early stages but engineers chipped away at the issues with set-up changes and by the last stint of the 161-lap marathon Brighty had set the fastest lap of the race.

The team’s pace came just in time for a safety car on lap 134, which reformed the field and put Brighty back in the hunt for a podium from 11th place. A race to the finish saw Bright pass Michael Caruso, Russell Ingall, Karl Reindler, Lee Holdsworth and James Courtney to cross the finish line fourth, just one second away from a podium.

The next V8 Supercar round is the Gold Coast 600 on October 24

Race Overview:

LAPS 1-40 JB gets a bad start and drops to 11th from eighth on the grid. He pits on lap 26 and MH rejoins in 19th as rain begins to fall across the top of The Mountain. He is passed by Ritter and Van Gisbergen.

LAPS 41-80 MH is under intense pressure from Morris, who passes on lap 45. MH pits on lap 52 and JB takes over. He is unable to pit under the Dean Fiore safety car on lap 58 because he would have to queue behind team-mate Jason Richards. JB is 10th on the restart and pits on lap 79, when MH rejoins 20th.

LAPS 81-120 After a battle with Brabham MH is directly behind team-mate David Wall, who he passes cleanly. He quickly catches Owen Kelly, who holds him up for several laps before the team pits MH on lap 94 to get clean air and fresh tyres. MH pits again on lap 113 and JB gets in, rejoining just behind the leaders.

LAPS 121-161 A safety car on lap 134 gives JB an opportunity to fuel to the end and he rejoins 11th with fresh tyres. The restart, on lap 138, saw JB pass Caruso. He then passed Ingall on 140, Reindler on 141 and Holdsworth on 146. A final safety car on lap 153, caused by Will Davison’s retirement, saw JB running fifth. After the restart on lap 156 JB passed Courtney a lap later to finish fourth.

Jason Bright Trading Post Racing:
"We can take a lot from this weekend; we were quickest in qualifying and quickest in the race. It just shows how much more potential we have got; other teams aren’t improving at the same rate as we are. "We went from top-20 times at the start of the race to the quickest car out there at the end and that’s a massive credit to the team. It’s our best result of the year and any day you can have a good run here and be that competitive with the front guys is a good day.”
